As Freeman entered the clubhouse, he was greeted by Dodger Blue T-shirts adorning every locker, featuring his name and number on the back and the phrase “#MaxStrong” emblazoned on the front.

Moments later, the entire Dodgers team and coaching staff wore them during pregame workouts in a show of solidarity with their star first baseman and his youngest child. “That’s the first time I cried today,” Freeman said, his voice choked with emotion. “It means a lot.”

Freeman’s emotions surfaced again during a 30-minute session with reporters, where he recounted the pain of seeing his son suffer. Max was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves, causing weakness, numbness, and, in Max’s case, paralysis. Max awoke on July 22 with a slight limp, which progressed to full paralysis within four days, prompting Freeman to rush home from a series against the Houston Astros. By Wednesday, doctors had removed Max from his ventilator.

Just five days later, Freeman was back in the Dodgers’ lineup for the start of a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies, playing first base and batting third. He went 1-for-4 in the Dodgers’ 5-3 win and received a long-standing ovation before his first at-bat, with the Phillies joining in from their dugout.

The pitch clock was stopped as Freeman stepped out of the batter’s box, removed his helmet, and waved to the crowd, touching his right hand to his chest. “I was doing OK tipping my hat, but then I saw my dad in the front row with my stepmom, choked up and teary-eyed,” Freeman recalled. “That’s what really got me.”

Max spent eight days in a pediatric intensive care unit before being discharged on Saturday. The following day, he began physical therapy. Max’s personality has returned, Freeman noted, but he still has to relearn many basic functions. Most importantly, Max is expected to make a full recovery. “He didn’t deserve this,” Freeman said. “No one does. Seeing all those filled rooms in the pediatric ICU, it’s heartbreaking. We’re one of the lucky ones. Max is on his way to a full recovery, but many kids are fighting for their lives. It puts everything in perspective.”

Freeman expressed profound relief and gratitude on Monday. He also acknowledged the support from the baseball community, including Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy and his players, who sent a supportive video, and the Dodgers, who told him to take as much time as needed. Most notably, Freeman thanked the doctors and nurses at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. “I’m here nine days later, and it feels like a miracle,” Freeman said. “I can’t thank them enough.”

The exact cause of Guillain-Barré syndrome is unknown, and there is no known cure. While most patients make a full recovery, some severe cases can be fatal. Early detection is critical due to the syndrome’s rapid progression. Max can now sit up on his own, which doctors see as a good baseline for recovery.

His hands remain curled, and he needs to relearn how to walk, but Freeman is confident in his son’s full recovery. After Monday’s game, Chelsea texted Freeman a picture of Max doing tummy time and smiling. “He seemed happy about it,” Freeman said. “That was surprising to us.”

During the intense days in Houston, Freeman didn’t watch any of the Dodgers’ games, focusing solely on his son and hoping for any sign of improvement. He began swinging a bat again on Tuesday morning, mostly to loosen up after sleeping on a hospital couch for several nights. By Thursday, he was hitting off a tee again. The next day, Freeman discussed his return with Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman. His return on Monday led to the Dodgers designating infielder Cavan Biggio for assignment.

Freeman admitted he’s uncertain how he will handle playing, but his son’s progress provides comfort. “I’m here because things are better at home,” Freeman said. “He is on his way to recovery. He’s at home, happy. I asked, ‘Are you excited to watch Daddy on TV tonight?’ He said, ‘Yes.'”

Freeman struck out in his first at-bat, calling it “one of the most pleasant strikeouts I’ve ever had in my big league career.” In the third inning, he lined a base hit to right field, prompting a “Freddie!” chant from the crowd of 48,178 people, reminiscent of the early 2021 season when he was still emotional about not re-signing with the Atlanta Braves. Upon reaching first base, Freeman hugged Phillies star Bryce Harper, who had texted him multiple times during Max’s ordeal, checking in.

“I’m just very thankful for the baseball community, lifting up Max in prayer, love, and support,” Freeman said. “It’s going to be a long journey for him, but it’s a beautiful thing that he’s on the path to recovery.”

Jordan Love will not practice without a contract, but the Packers remain positive https://www.sportda.com/jordan-love-will-not-participate-in-training-camp/ https://www.sportda.com/jordan-love-will-not-participate-in-training-camp/#respond Mon, 22 Jul 2024 20:53:05 +0000 https://www.sportda.com/?p=41572 The Packers and starting quarterback Jordan Love are reportedly close to a contract extension, but Love will sit out all preseason activities until the deal is finalized.

On Monday, just before the Packers’ first training camp session, general manager Brian Gutekunst said that Love’s agents had notified him on Saturday night of their intentions prior to the deal’s completion.

https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1BdxYEaBBpzxX

“We totally get his point of view,” Gutekunst said.

Except for practice, Love was a punctual and engaged camper who participated in all of the other activities and meetings. Love had already completed all of the offseason activities, including the June minicamp that was required of him, in order to earn a $500,000 workout bonus.

Gutekunst said, “Yeah, I think so, but again, you never know,” when asked whether an extension could be completed in a few days. We are making every effort to complete the task. Meanwhile, I’m certain of one thing: we want the same thing.

Regarding quarterbacks, the Packers are not actively seeking to update their roster. According to coach Matt LaFleur, rookie Michael Pratt will get equal repetitions with second-year veteran Sean Clifford, who will take the first snaps with the starters. According to LaFleur, former NFL quarterback Sean Mannion will assist with the team’s passes during practice sessions since he was appointed as an assistant coach this summer.

Upon being asked how much longer they can go without bringing in a third quarterback, LaFleur said, “That’s a great question.” It goes without saying that we are crossing our fingers that this will be resolved in the near future. However, we will need to make that adjustment as we move along.

As the summer program began, LaFleur said he was not concerned about Love and the offense letting the momentum they had generated last season slip away.

The way he gets ready is something LaFleur is familiar with. “So, I’m not overly concerned about that.”

Love inked a mini-extension in May of last year, but he would have earned only $11 million this season if he hadn’t re-upped. His rookie contract was extended by one year, to the 2024 season, as a result of the transaction. This occurred because the club decided not to exercise the fifth-year option on the contract. Upon signing Love, Green Bay offered him a signing bonus of $8,788,655. He earned $1.01 million in basic pay during the previous season.

Now that he’s in the hunt for a monster deal, Love is almost certain to become the next member of the exclusive group of players to earn $50 million annually. The Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence were the most recent teams to trade quarterbacks in June. The deal’s guaranteed amount of $200 million is part of the $275 million total value over the five years. Lawrence and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals are tied for the league’s highest average salary at $55 million per year.

During the season, Love threw for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Along with Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, he was one of just four quarterbacks in 2023 to finish in the top ten in passing touchdowns, passing yards, and touchdowns to interceptions ratio.

The Packers went from a 2-5 start to a 9-8 finish and the playoffs thanks to his 17 starts. Even though Love passed for three touchdowns and no interceptions in their wild-card victory against the Dallas Cowboys, they lost in the divisional round to the San Francisco 49ers, with Love throwing an interception on the game-winning drive.

Kyle Bradish Undergoes Tommy John Surgery; Danny Coulombe Out Until September https://www.sportda.com/kyle-bradish-undergoes-tommy-john-surgery/ https://www.sportda.com/kyle-bradish-undergoes-tommy-john-surgery/#respond Fri, 21 Jun 2024 23:38:41 +0000 https://www.sportda.com/?p=40924 On Wednesday, starter Kyle Bradish of the Baltimore Orioles had Tommy John surgery, which will terminate his season. Reliever Danny Coulombe, meanwhile, will be out for a long time after undergoing elbow surgery.

The latest significant setback for the Orioles pitching staff, which has struggled with ailments all season, came from General Manager Mike Elias before Baltimore’s game against the New York Yankees.

Dr. Keith Meister, chief physician of the Rangers, implanted an internal brace in Bradish during a surgery in Texas. Last year, Bradish placed fourth in the AL Cy Young Award voting. That might minimize Bradish’s recuperation period before returning to the big league mound, which is generally 12 to 18 months for a starting pitcher after Tommy John surgery without an internal brace.

“A huge loss for us.” He’s a top-of-the-rotation pitcher,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. “We were hopeful that it wasn’t going to come to this, but unfortunately it has and we’re going to miss him.”

Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the Dodgers’ top physician, removed bone chips from Coulombe’s throwing elbow on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The left-handed pitcher might rejoin the Orioles in September.

In 8 starts this season, Bradish has a 2-0 record with a 2.75 ERA. In 39⅓ innings, he struck out 53 batters and walked 15.

The 27-year-old righty didn’t make his season debut until May 2 due to a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. He left his most recent game against Philadelphia last Friday after five innings and 74 pitches and was placed back on the 15-day injury list the following day.

“Kyle Bradish is an amazing warrior. And he probably didn’t show what he was going through, honestly, because he enjoys competing,” Hyde added. “He wants the ball, and he doesn’t want to leave the game. And he’s a really ferocious competitor. The makeup is as strong as any player I’ve had. So it’s unfortunate to lose him because of what he provides in so many ways.”

Elias said, “He was throwing brilliantly. It was quite stunning. That is not a simple task to do. I believe he would have continued throwing until his arm came off. He performed an excellent job. He helped us win games, and we’ll make up the difference for him.”

Bradish finished 12-7 with a 2.83 ERA in 30 starts last year, guiding the Orioles to the AL East crown in his second major league season.  “It’s going to be a long road back,” Hyde said.

After 29 appearances in relief, Coulombe had a 1-0 record, 2.42 ERA, and a save. He has been on the 15-day IL for left elbow irritation since June 11, retroactive to June 9.

“We feel good that he’s probably going to be back with us at some point during the last part of the season,” Hyde told the team, “but he’s been a huge piece of our bullpen and we’re going to miss him the time he’s gone also.”

After leaving Tuesday night’s 4-2 loss with soreness in his left hip from a collision with star Yankee Juan Soto, third baseman Jordan Westburg was not in the starting lineup.

Ramón Urías began at third, although Elias said that Westburg is on the day-to-day list and unlikely to be hurt. He was undergoing treatment on Wednesday.  “He is improved. He’s still really painful. “He was hit in a tough spot in the hip,” Hyde said.

Baltimore chose utilityman Nick Maton’s contract from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned outfielder Kyle Stowers to their top farm club. Tyler Wells, a right-hander who had right elbow UCL surgery, was placed on the 60-day injured list.

Wells, All-Star closer Félix Bautista and left-handed starter John Means are all out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.  Dean Kremer has been on the 15-day injured list since late May due to a right triceps injury, but he will make his second rehab start for Norfolk on Saturday, throwing around five innings and 75 pitches.

On Wednesday, the Orioles had the second-best record in the American League with 47-25, just 2½ games behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East, even though they had suffered injuries to many talented pitchers.

“We feel terrible for the guys that are hurt, but we’ve got to keep moving on,” Hyde told the crowd.

Florida vs. Texas A&M College World Series: Tennessee to Face Texas A&M in Championship Series https://www.sportda.com/florida-vs-texas-am-college-world-series/ https://www.sportda.com/florida-vs-texas-am-college-world-series/#respond Fri, 21 Jun 2024 23:35:20 +0000 https://www.sportda.com/?p=40908 Jim Schlossnagle also achieved a significant milestone. Until this year, the 53-year-old coach had never advanced to the Men’s College World Series finals despite leading 7 teams there since 2010 (2 in his first 3 seasons at Texas A&M and 5 while at TCU).

“I’m weary of leaving before the title, so personally, it’s fantastic. “It’s exciting to be a part of,” he said after his Aggies eliminated Florida with a 6-0 bracket-clinching victory Wednesday night. “Excited to play an awesome Tennessee team, one of the best college teams that I’ve ever played on—I mean, they have a great team.”

The best-of-three championship series will begin on Saturday with the Aggies (52-13) taking on No. 1 nationally seeded Tennessee (58-12). It will be an all-SEC final for the second year in a row and the third in four.

Justin Lamkin gave Texas A&M its second consecutive spectacular start against the Gators, and Caden Sorrell homered to begin the game.

The Gators (36-30) were shut out for the first time in 145 games, only hours after they had 14 hits and scored their third-most runs of the season in a 15-4 victory against Kentucky.

Guess who last blanked the Gators? A&M, 10-0 in the SEC tournament of 2022.

“It’s like you’re going full speed ahead, and you win the game this morning, and you go back to the hotel, everybody’s in a good mood, we’re feeling really good about tonight, and it just didn’t go our way,” the Florida coach, Kevin O’Sullivan, said. “As simple as that, Texas A&M deserves to move on.”

For their second meeting in Omaha, Schlossnagle enlisted Lamkin after starting pitcher Shane Sdao suffered an arm injury in the Super Regionals. Lamkin was impressive in a 42-pitch, three-inning performance on Saturday. He was even better Wednesday, keeping the Gators scoreless for five innings while striking out nine.

“I think the big part of it is just having confidence in myself and knowing to go out there and compete and play at this level,” Lamkin stated in 2017. “And I think just getting ahead of hitters and having true confidence in all my pitches really helped me out.”

As Ashton Wilson, a right fielder for the Florida Marlins, attempted to catch a triple-bound drive by Ali Camarillo in the top of the ninth inning, a terrifying incident occurred when Wilson hit his head on a cushioned post on the fence between the bullpen and field. Before leaving the game, Wilson received treatment from a coach and athletic trainer, Kevin O’Sullivan.

Few anticipated Florida getting to the final four of the MCWS. The Gators struggled in the regular season and needed to win their last series, at Georgia, to reach the winning record required for an NCAA tournament-at-large invitation. They won regionals and super regionals along the way to get here.

Like any year-ending game, the loss in Omaha will be devastating, Gators outfielder Tyler Shelnut said. “I’m just really proud of my teammates and the rest of this bunch for going through so much to get here—a lot. This year has been very difficult for all of us. Getting here was a tremendous achievement.”

Florida freshman Liam Peterson struggled for his third consecutive start. He walked four of the first five hitters, forcing in the Aggies’ opening run, and was removed.

In the sixth inning, with a player on base and one out, O’Sullivan called for reliever Brandon Neely. Neely had allowed just three runs in a team-high 21 innings in the NCAA tournament, but Sorrell connected on a 3-2 fastball for a two-run bomb to right for a 5-0 lead.

“I remember coming to these games when I was 10 years old and wanting to be a part of this,” said Sorrell, who grew up in Highland Village, Texas, three hours from College Station. “The job’s not finished yet.”

Man Charged in Alleged Sports Betting Scheme: Co-Conspirator Arrested Trying to Flee on One-Way Ticket https://www.sportda.com/man-charged-in-alleged-sports-betting/ https://www.sportda.com/man-charged-in-alleged-sports-betting/#respond Wed, 05 Jun 2024 20:05:25 +0000 https://www.sportda.com/?p=40538 On Tuesday evening, the Department of Justice announced the arrest of a man in Brooklyn, New York, in connection with the case.

Even though Porter was not specifically named in the DOJ report, the details of the gambling scheme were the same as those that the NBA had made public when it imposed a lifetime ban in April.

The statement describes the arrest of a man named Long Phi Pham, sometimes known as “Bruce,” who is accused of collaborating with others to defraud a sports betting organization by betting on a former NBA player, thought to be Porter, in games on January 26 and March 20, 2024.

While attempting to leave the nation for Australia, Pham was arrested on Monday and is now being held in detention until his trial. The DOJ said that three additional co-conspirators in the case remain at large.

According to the statement, during the Jan. 26 game, one unidentified NBA player was “encouraged” not to participate to pay off a substantial gambling debt. That is consistent with the facts published by the NBA, in which Porter played just four minutes and scored zero points, essentially hitting the “under” in the prop bet put on him.

Man charged in alleged sports betting scheme; co-conspirator arrested while attempting to flee on a one-way ticket

According to the DOJ, Porter called Pham in advance and informed him that he would withdraw from the game. Several co-conspirators then bet, knowing Porter would not participate for most of the game, with a relative of one of the co-conspirators wagering $10,000 and earning $85,000 on Porter prop bets.

Pham discussed Porter’s early exit from the March 20 game with his co-conspirators. He and his co-conspirators then gambled in Atlantic City, intending to share the proceeds. Between the two games, Pham and his pals made more than $1 million.

According to the statement, Porter texted Pham and others involved in the betting scam on April 4th about the possibility of problems, saying, “I might just get hit by a rico,” alluding to being charged with racketeering. Porter also texted to ensure that the conspirators had “deleted all the stuff” from their phones regarding the betting scam.

The NBA’s investigation into Porter’s actions led to his lifelong suspension on April 17. The charges against Porter included “disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, limiting his participation in one or more games for betting purposes, and betting on NBA games.” The league discovered that Porter “disclosed confidential information about his health status” to someone he knew to be a sports bettor. After multiple Porter prop bets were made, regulated sports betting companies saw suspicious behavior and reported it to the league office, which prompted the inquiry.

In addition to revealing information to sports bettors, the NBA discovered that Porter “placed at least 13 bets on NBA games using an associate’s online betting account” from January to March 2024. Overall, Porter staked $54,094 and got a payoff of $76,059, resulting in a profit of $21,965. Porter made no wagers on games in which he was participating, but he did include the Raptors in three multi-game parlays, one of which he chose Toronto to lose.

Aside from the lifetime suspension from the league, there has been no further penalty for Porter’s involvement in this issue.

LeBron James, Free Agency, and Lakers: Will His Decision Impact Drafting Bronny? https://www.sportda.com/lebron-james-free-agency-and-lakers/ https://www.sportda.com/lebron-james-free-agency-and-lakers/#respond Fri, 31 May 2024 21:23:24 +0000 https://www.sportda.com/?p=40433 The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a crucial summer, with everyone’s eyes on their star player and sure-to-be Hall of Famer, James. His upcoming decision has the potential to impact the team’s future significantly. James is set to become a free agent this summer, and retaining the four-time NBA MVP is the Lakers’ top priority. Although the odds of James remaining in Los Angeles are high, there is still a possibility that he might join another team.

In his recent article, a senior writer, Chris Herring, discusses ten trades or deals that should occur this offseason. Herring argues that the Philadelphia 76ers should aim to acquire James.

LeBron James is expected to decline his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers before the June 29 deadline. The NBA draft, featuring his son, LeBron James Jr., is scheduled for June 26.

LeBron has long voiced his aspiration to play alongside Bronny in the NBA. Now, with their agent, Rich Paul, the pair has significant leverage to turn this dream into reality.

It would need James to opt out of his one-year, $51.4 million contract with the Lakers,” Herring wrote. “After a season in which both he and Anthony Davis were the healthiest they’ve been as a pair since joining forces in 2019-20, James may believe there isn’t enough potential to win another championship with the purple and gold.

If he comes to that conclusion, he could do far worse than the Sixers, who not only have a ton of cap space and could offer James a maximum of three years for $157 million, but also Embiid, the 2022–23 MVP, and 23-year-old speedster Tyrese Maxey, who will be a restricted free agent this summer, allowing the Sixers to match any offer made to him. Earlier this season, James praised Maxey on his “Mind the Game” podcast with JJ Redick. “You can’t get a hold of him because the motherf—er doesn’t get tired,” James said of Maxey, who made his All-Star debut in February.

Tobias Harris, who never served as a third or fourth option in Philadelphia and most likely ended his Sixers career with a scoreless effort when the Sixers lost to the Knicks in the first round of the 2024 playoffs, would take Tobias Harris’ place. James generates significantly more offense than Harris, who often stands in the corner. During these playoffs, just 34.8% of James’ shots from inside the arc were assisted, while 62.5% of Harris’ twos came from a teammate. James is also coming off his finest perimeter shooting season (41%), during which he improved his stroke to align his shoulders with the hoop better.

On Monday, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on “Get Up” that the 76ers are threatening to sign James, but not seriously.

This summer, the 76ers seem to be after every top talent. They are one of the NBA’s greatest wild cards coming into the offseason, with the potential to generate roughly $65 million in salary space this summer. The Sixers can sign a top free agent while still having money to acquire a key role player.

All indicators lead to James staying in Los Angeles and concluding his career with the Purple and Gold. According to Fox Sports, the Lakers have the greatest chance to sign James at -450. The Cleveland Cavaliers (+700), Golden State Warriors (+1200), and Philadelphia 76ers (+2000) round out the top four, after the Lakers. It looks like the King will stay in Los Angeles.

Dallas Mavericks Luka Legend: How Dončić’s Game-Winning 3 Bends Game 2 to Secure 2-0 Lead Against Minnesota Timberwolves https://www.sportda.com/dallas-mavericks-luka-legend-how-doncics/ https://www.sportda.com/dallas-mavericks-luka-legend-how-doncics/#respond Sat, 25 May 2024 22:23:10 +0000 https://www.sportda.com/?p=40335 Luka Doncic worked to create some space as the clock wound down, using a screen to bring Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert to the top of the key. Then, with a crossover dribble, he set up his step-back 3-pointer.

With a clean shot and a shout, Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks are heading home with a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Doncic made the winning shot with 3 seconds left and recorded his fifth triple-double of the playoffs, leading the Mavericks to a 109-108 win over the Timberwolves on Friday night.

“I was just trying to get to my spot and step back. I’m confident in that shot,” Doncic said.

Doncic tallied 32 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds, marking his eighth triple-double in 42 career postseason games for the Mavericks. They overcame an 18-point deficit late in the second quarter and were still trailing by 16 midway through the third.

“As you’ve seen with Luka, he loves that stage. He doesn’t shy away from it,” said Mavericks coach Jason Kidd. “I thought he was great the whole game, keeping guys together with his energy.”

Naz Reid shot 7 for 9 from 3-point range, scoring 23 points, but his final attempt at the buzzer bounced out, sending the Wolves to Dallas for Game 3 on Sunday in a tight spot after another off night for stars Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.

“First to fourth. Nothing’s won,” Doncic said. “You’ve just got to think about the next game—not the future, just this game.”

Kyrie Irving scored 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, including a corner 3-pointer with 1:05 left that brought the Mavericks within two. Then the Wolves committed turnovers around a miss by Doncic. Edwards threw the ball out of bounds with 13 seconds left, setting up Doncic’s winning shot.

Doncic took the inbounds pass and dribbled, using a screen by Dereck Lively II. The Wolves switched defenders, with NBA All-Defensive second-team pick Jaden McDaniels dropping with Lively’s roll and Gobert staying at the top of the key.

“I can’t move fast, but I can move faster than him,” said Doncic, who flexed and yelled at Gobert, who had fouled him hard earlier in the game.

The lead for either side was three points or less from 10:50 remaining to 1:29, until Edwards, who scored 21 points but is shooting 11 for 33 in the series – made two free throws for a 108-103 lead. This came right after Irving missed two foul shots, prompting the crowd to cheer for the promotion that rewards fans with a free Chick-fil-A sandwich.

Mike Conley scored 18 points, and Gobert added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolves, who leaned heavily on Reid. His 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter gave the Wolves an 86-79 lead after the Mavericks had closed the gap with a 21-7 run during Conley’s rest period.

“We’re just beating ourselves a lot of the time making simple, mental errors,” said Towns, who scored 15 points on 4-for-16 shooting. “Our defense, which has held us together all year, sometimes falters at the wrong times. Combined with our lack of offensive production, it’s tough.”

Doncic, who excelled in the fourth quarter of Game 1, finishing with 33 points, has been dealing with a sprained right knee and left ankle soreness, as noted in the Mavericks’ injury report.

When he was subbed out late in the first quarter, Doncic headed straight to the locker room before returning to the bench for his next shift. After a fast-break layup late in the second quarter, he was seen laboring and limping. He shot 5 for 14 before halftime.

The magic of the 25-year-old Slovenian superstar’s game is that he doesn’t need to be fully healthy to dominate. Doncic had Minnesota’s top-ranked defense out of sync with his precise passing, often setting up big men like Daniel Gafford (16 points) and Lively (14 points) with exceptional lobs for easy dunks.

The Mavericks shot 60.5% from the floor (23 for 38) in the second half.

“Luka was involved in a lot of that. He makes a lot of great reads out of the pick-and-roll. We tried to show him different looks,” Edwards said. “He kept making the right reads. It’s all him. We’ve just got to figure him out. But we’ll figure it out.”
